Ceramics  
Mondays and Wednesdays;    6:00-9:00 pm    (5 classes)
July 14, 16, 21, 23, Aug. 4
Instructor:  Sue Rolf

Members: $180      Non-members: $195
 
Ceramics class is open to all beginning-level students. The pottery wheel is used to learn throwing techniques as well as hand-built pieces. Sue Rolf creates a relaxing, fun environment great for a group of friends to gather and create some "fun"ctional art. Students are encouraged to take this class repeatedly to practice their skills. All materials are included.  

Sue Rolf holds a Bachelor of Fine arts degree from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and specializes in wheel throwing and altered porcelain. She also develops her own glazes. Sue's ceramic class has been a favorite of many returning art students from Appleton Art Center for years.


Portrait Demonstration
Friday and Saturday, 10:00 am-3:00 pm
July 11 and 12 (2 classes)
Instructor: Steve Ohlrich

Members: $105  Non-members: $115

Join artist Steve Ohlrich as he instructs students in painting a portrait using the alla prima method.  The workshop includes demonstrations, instruction on technique, composition and drawing, as well as on-one-one instruction. Materials list provided at registration.

   

   

Mosaic Stepping Stone
Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 pm
July 22 and 29 (2 classes)

The use of mosaics as an art form is over 5,000 years old. The materials used have been as grand as precious stones and as humble as simple
pebbles. Using glass, fun bits of this and that, and quick drying cement you will create a stepping stone of your own design.  Then, once you have learned the basics to make one stepping stone, think of the fun you will have decorating your garden with any picture your mind can dream up.  All supplies are included in the cost of the class.  Sample stepping stone designs will be available. All supplies are included.


Method Painting

Here's your chance to put brush to canvas and create an actual oil painting, even if you can't draw.  All of the initial sketching has been done for you on an artist's canvas, ready for you to paint in the colors.  Two different one-day workshops will be held and each is open to anyone who would like to try their hand at oil painting.  Each workshop will feature a different scene to be painted.  All supplies included.

Take advantage of our well-equipped studio spaces furnished with tables, chairs, easels, pottery wheels, ceramic tools, and a kiln, as well as fantastic natural lighting. Bring your art materials and the art you are currently creating. For those interested, peer critique sessions take place regularly. Studio usage is Free to all members as well as those who are enrolled in an adult class.

Drawing and Sketching for Beginners

Instructor: Horace Davis

Join artist and instructor Horace Davis in this beginning level drawing and painting class. Explore drawing technique, shape, form, perspective, composition, and color. Discover, learn, and practice the techniques needed to grow in your own artistic development. A supply list will be provided. 

   

   

Watercolor Workshop with Phil Sealy (Beginners to Intermediate)

Learn the secrets of the trade from a Master Watercolor artist in a two hour demonstration. Bring whatever supplies you are currently using to experience the techniques learned from Phil’s instruction first hand. Supplies will be available for purchase. Don’t forget to bring a bag lunch, or be prepared to visit one of the local venues downtown. 

Phil Sealy is a master watercolorist whose art is displayed in corporate and private collections throughout the United States. Phil has been a practicing watercolorist and draftsman for over 50 years.  

 


Sculpture through the Ages
Thursdays; 6:00 pm-7:00 pm

Instuctor: Tim Riley

This series of illustrated classes weaves sculpture into the fabric of history. From ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, through the Middle Ages and Renaissance and on to contemporary carvings, discover how sculpture plays an important role in the arts, politics, and culture over time.
